Day 0

OBSERVATIONS: Clarkston, WA 8:26 AM

  • Mama Ro would be proud of me. Several people have questioned how I doul have packed for a trip of this duration in only two carry on bags. (She would take about the same luggage for a two month European tour.)

  • The Jet boat doesn’t leave until 10:30

  • The birds are singing outside my window

  • Breakfast was okay but their Eggs Benedict don’t hold a candle to Mona’s. She made the best Hollandaise sauce anyone ever tasted.

  • There are too damn many old people in their 70s who think I am a youth in early retirement. (Not sure what I anm going to do with it and I am I will be 83 next month.) All they want to talk about is what they did, not what they are doing.

  • Many of those on the cruise are in groups, and as another solo traveler has observed those groups are impenetrable. Hopefully there will be other solo cruisers once we are on board. Being a solo is not easy, and being an introverted solo is harder. Mona and I were so close that being together was almost the ultimate introversion. We were simply two parts of the same whole. (Wow! I did not expect that and I am not sure what I am going to do with it, but it is the kind of thing I had hoped would happen.)

Well it is still an hour until jet boat departure so I will pause now and add more later.

How special that Mona passed along how to make her amazing Hollandaise to many, including Maggie!

You two were so fortunate to have found each other and, taking the good with the bad, stuck it out. What a life. And I’m glad you are going forward with yours, with her always in your heart. You are not truly a “solo.”
